Akon has joined the 2020 campaign of bitcoin entrepreneur Brock Pierce to become the US president. Akon will serve as the Pierce campaign’s chief strategist while building its “futuristic” Akon City in Senegal, Africa, that will run on the akoin cryptocurrency.
Akon: The Chief Strategist for Brock Pierce’s 2020 Presidential Campaign
The two-time artist and crypto entrepreneur Akon nominated for the Grammy Award, whose full name is Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam, has entered the presidential race for 2020 by independent candidate Brock Pierce. Pierce, an early adopter of bitcoin who created Blockchain Capital and co-founded Tether, tweeted Monday:
“We are excited for Akon to join our campaign as chief strategist.”
“Akon isn’t just one of the world’s most well-known musicians, he’s a successful global businessman and philanthropist,” said Pierce, who declared his candidacy in July, in a statement quoted by Cheddar. “I began my life as an artist and I have the highest respect for the culture and the arts — we’re lost without it. His ambitions to be in politics, to be in the public service, and what he has achieved in Africa and beyond would be important to our country, national and global forum.
“Brock Pierce has always been considered to be a stand-up man,” Akon told the publication. “He is the individual of real people and he is not working along party lines. We share the same vision of moving America forward for everyone without showing favoritism to any given foundation.
Pierce was also an inspiration for Akon to create his cryptocurrency called akoin. This cryptocurrency will be used in Akon City, the futuristic city Akon is building in his home country of Senegal, Africa. Akon City’s Phase One is expected to be completed by 2023 and the entire town is expected to be completed by 2029. Phase one will include a 5,000-bed hospital, homes, hotels, schools, police and fire stations, an airstrip, a mall, a waste facility, a solar power plant, and all other modern-day town hallmarks. According to Micky’s publication, Hollywood film producer and akoin co-founder Jon Karas also learned about bitcoin from Pierce.
Currently, Brock Pierce is on the ballot in eight U.S. states and Washington, D.C., more than any other independent candidate in 2020, including Kanye West, Cheddar. At roughly the same time as Pierce, West announced his running for the US presidential race in 2020. Pierce has also petitioned several more states to join the ballot. Entrepreneur Karla Ballard will be his vice president while Pierce’s campaign manager is data protection activist and whistleblower Brittany Kaiser. Kaiser has been a key whistleblower in the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica affair, exposing data manipulation at worldwide elections.
New York’s Independence Party announced its backing for Pierce as the next U.S. president Monday. The group claims it has over 500,000 supporters nationally. “Honored to be nominated as their nominee for President of the United States of America by the Independence Party of New York,” Pierce tweeted in reaction.
